Our Programs

Private Lessons
 Private Music Lessons

Allegro Music School offers private lessons to students ages 4 - adult on the piano, and ages 6 - adult on strings, woodwinds, and voice. Students meet weekly with one of our experienced instructors, typically for 30 minutes. Lessons include instruction in technique, music theory, music history, aural skills, and a variety of repertoire. Tuition for 30-minute lessons is $135/month with discounts for multiple siblings or additional/longer lessons each week. We provide lessons at Centenary United Methodist Church on Rivermont Avenue, the University of Lynchburg on Lakeside Drive, and New Covenant Schools for our NCS students only.

For our piano students, we use a cutting-edge beginner method called The Piano ABC's to teach note reading, which helps our students graduate to "real music" very quickly.  We always teach with the student's goals in mind, and we keep them involved in the selection of their music.

The peer support is a major benefit and students make new friends while learning to play the piano!

Mini Musicians Class

Mini Musicians Class:

We believe that learning an instrument should be fun, especially for our youngest students! This group class is designed for our early musicians interested in taking private lessons from our teachers at Allegro. Here, students will be able to interact and learn the foundational elements of music through play and practice. This small group setting will fuel your student's musical curiosity while giving them the essential skills, such as simple rhythms/melodies and practice strategies, necessary for learning any instrument. Students ages 3-5 are encouraged to complete this group class to introduce the very foundational skills necessary to learn any instrument before taking private lessons. Teacher Sarah Healy has been a music teacher for pre-K through 5th grade students for multiple years and believes in teaching children to love music!

This class will meet on Tuesdays from 4:30 - 5:15 PM at the University of Lynchburg. Payment is $310 for the semester, or four monthly payments of $82 (September-December). We also offer a significant discount for siblings!

String Ensemble Class

String Ensemble Class:

Mrs. Kate Dovgalyuk and Dr. Yevgeniy Dovgalyuk will be partnering with Allegro to offer a String Ensemble Class for any beginning string players in the Lynchburg area! â€‹This class will not only help students to improve on their instrument, but will prepare them for more advanced school orchestras or even the Lynchburg Symphony Youth Orchestra! Through carefully structured rehearsals, students will explore the fundamentals of playing in an ensemble, including listening skills, balance and blend, musical expression, and proper orchestral etiquette.

Kate Dovgalyuk has been the strings director at various elementary schools in Fairfax County and has taught at St. Andrew Pre-School. Dr. Yevgeniy Dovgalyuk is the Associate Professor of Violin at Liberty University and Concertmaster of the Lynchburg Symphony Orchestra. Together, the Dovgalyuk's run the Liya Christian Ministry.

Guitar Ensemble

Guitar Ensemble Class:

Allegro periodically offers semester-long guitar ensemble classes for students ages 11 and up, with at least one year of playing experience. We review the basics of guitar playing and learn how to play and perform together! Performance opportunities might include Allegro recitals, community events, and competitions! Here is an example of a guitar ensemble:

This is a great opportunity for students to make music together, grow as musicians, improve ear training, and gain valuable ensemble skills. Students rarely end up with a solo performing career; however, many guitarists continue to use their skills in a group setting! We want all our students to experience the joy of making music with others.

Class dates, times, and payments will be announced soon.

Performance Opportunities
 Performance Opportunities

At Allegro we believe regular performance opportunities are an excellent way for students to learn how to work towards a long term goal, develop confidence, and use their music to contribute to others.  We offer multiple recitals and other performance opportunities throughout the school year.  These include fall recitals, Christmas recitals at River Ridge Mall, winter recitals, end-of-year recitals, and the possibility for others.

Allegro's end-of-year recital is a highlight of our school year.  This is when we celebrate the accomplishments of all our students and enjoy performances from all levels, instruments and genres!  Each of our students is invited to participate!  We love how preparing for and executing an excellent performance can significantly boost a student's self-confidence.
